The 27th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Unit at Andersen AFB, Guam, completed the first-ever accelerated Package Maintenance Plan, or PMP, inspection on an F-22 Raptor in a deployed environment on 4 August 2010. A PMP is a scheduled, long-term, heavy maintenance period on a fighter that is performed every 300 flight hours. A PMP normally takes a month to complete. The 27th EAMU maintainers, deployed from Langley AFB, Virginia, were tasked to accomplish an accelerated PMP in only ten days. A team of sixteen personnel working twelve-hour shifts worked got the F-22 back in operation. Once an aircraft comes within thirty-to-forty flight hours of its next scheduled PMP, it is not flown again until the inspection is complete.
