The 54th Fighter Group was reactivated at Holloman AFB, New Mexico, in ceremonies on 11 March 2014. Numerous local and state political leaders and more than 300 members of Team Holloman from in and around the Tularosa Basin and the Sacramento Mountains attended the ceremony. The 54th FG, which will train F-16 pilots and maintainers, is a detachment of the 56th Fighter Wing at Luke AFB, Arizona, and will be a tenant unit at Holloman. The 56th FW currently graduates more than 285 F-16 pilots and 350 crew chiefs annually, but that wing has begun the transition to F-35 training. The 54th Fighter Group, first activated on 15 January 1941, has been an inactive unit since early 1958.
