US Air Force aircrews flying an MC-130H Combat Talon II and an MC-130J Commando II Special Operations aircraft carried out a dual Maritime Craft Aerial Delivery System, or MCADS, airdrop during an exercise on 18 September 2015 over the Pacific Ocean. This flight, carried out on the sixty-eighth anniversary of the creation of the Air Force, marked the first time an MC-130J crew had completed this type of airdrop in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. Until this exercise, the Talon II had been the only aircraft able to provide this type of airdrop capability The MC-130H crew is assigned to the 1st Special Operations Squadron and the MC-130J crew is assigned to the 17th SOS at Kadena.
