The 114th Fighter Wing, the South Dakota Air National Guard unit at Sioux Falls, was named on 23 September 2010 as the 2010 recipient of the National Guard Bureau’s Winston P. Wilson Award, which is presented annually to the most outstanding Air National Guard fighter unit in the nation. This marks the fourth time the 114th FW has claimed the trophy. It was previously presented to the unit in 1981, 1983, and 2007. The wing was also recently selected to convert from the Block 30 F-16 Fighting Falcon, which it has flown since 1992, to the Block 40 F-16. The award is named for Maj. Gen. Winston P. Wilson, the chief of the National Guard Bureau from 1963 to 1971.
