Ten Hickam Field survivors and current US Air Force Airmen and their families gathered at the historic flag pole at Hickam AFB, Hawaii, on 7 December 2011 for the annual Pearl Harbor Day Remembrance Ceremony. The ceremony honors the men and women who fought for America's freedom during the attack by the Imperial Japanese Navy seventy years earlier. The morning ceremony featured four 19th and 199th Fighter Squadron F-22 pilots carrying out the Missing Man formation. As one of the Raptor's climbed and disappeared into the clouds, the Hickam honor guard prepared to raise a flag to half staff. A light rain began to fall, which, in Hawaii, is considered a blessing. Officials noted the heavens were mourning the men lost on that day.
