Lockheed Martin employees in Marietta, Georgia, got the opportunity to see an F-35 Lightning II up close on 5 November 2012, as F-35B BF-18 stopped by on its ferry flight to NAS Patuxent River, Maryland, where the aircraft will join the F-35 test fleet. Technicians at the Marietta facility applied the final stealth coatings to the horizontal and vertical tails of this particular aircraft. The assemblies were then shipped to the Lockheed Martin facility in Fort Worth, Texas, for installation on the aircraft. The Marietta facility also currently delivers approximately one F-35 Center Wing Assembly per week to Fort Worth. Here, the aircraft is taxied in behind a C-5M Super Galaxy at the Marietta site.
