US Airmen, civilians, and retirees gathered on 30 November 2012 at JB McChord-Lewis, Washington, to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the thirteen Airmen killed when two C-141 StarLifter transports collided over Montana. The somber ceremony took place at the base’s C-141 Memorial located between the 4th and 8th Airlift Squadron buildings on McChord Field. The C-141 crews were conducting a night refueling training exercise on 30 November 1992 when their aircraft collided. Eleven of the victims were assigned to the 36th Airlift Squadron, one was attached to the 8th AS, and one to the 4th AS at McChord.
