The 421st Fighter Squadron, one of the three active duty US Air Force F-16 units at Hill AFB, Utah, participated in the US Marine Corps Integrated Training Exercise, or ITX, at MCB Twentynine Palms from 21 January through 2 February 2013. ITX 13-1 is the final training exercise before the Marines deploy and the participation of the 421st FS pilots allowed Joint Tactical Air Controllers to experience controlling different types of aircraft. During the exercise, Air Force fighters conducted close air support missions with live 500-pound bombs. An F-16 pilot also served as a liaison to assist with planning and communication.
