The first F-35 for the Royal Australian Air Force was flown for the first time from the Lockheed Martin facility in Fort Worth, Texas, on 29 September 2014. Lockheed Martin F-35 Chief Test Pilot Alan Norman put the aircraft through a series of functional checks during the sortie that lasted two hours. The aircraft, (RAAF serial number A35-001, company number AU-1) is scheduled for delivery later this year and will be assigned to Luke AFB, Arizona. Australia and partner countries will use this aircraft for F-35A pilot training.
