The US Air Force deployed four F-22 Raptors from JB Langley-Eustis, Virginia, in early November 2014 for operational integration training missions with the F-35A Lightning IIs assigned to the 33rd Fighter Wing at Eglin AFB, Florida. The purpose of the training was to improve integrated employment of fifth-generation assets and tactics. The training allowed both units to gain operational familiarization and capture lessons learned to improve future exercises. Exploring ways to maximize their fifth-generation capabilities, F-35A pilots from the 58th Fighter Squadron at Eglin flew offensive counter air, defensive counter air and interdiction missions with the F-22 pilots, who are assigned to the 149th FS, the Virginia Air National Guard associate unit at Langley.
