The first Royal Australian Air Force F-35A Lightning II (RAAF serial number A35-002) was flown to Luke AFB, Arizona, on 18 December 2014. This was the first F-35 for an international partner to arrive at Luke for training. Australia is the first of ten nations, including Turkey, Norway, the Netherlands, Japan, Korea, and Israel, that will conduct pilot at the base near Phoenix. Australia's training will be conducted in conjunction with the 61st Fighter Squadron. The 62nd Fighter Squadron is expected to stand-up in June, to be joined by partner nations Italy and Norway. Flight operations for the 62nd FS are scheduled to begin in September 2015.
