US Naval Aviators from Strike Fighter Squadron 101 (VFA-101), known as the Grim Reapers and homeported at Eglin AFB, Florida, visited NAS Fallon, Nevada, on 3 September 2015. This evolution is part of a twelve-day VFA-101 detachment focused on the integration of F-35C with the Fallon Range Training Complex. This visit will also allow coordination among VFA-101 and the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center at Fallon to refine tactics, techniques and procedures of the F-35C as it prepares to join the carrier air wing. Although VFA-101 is the Navy's newest fighter squadron, it possesses a rich heritage. The original Fighter Squadron 101 (VF-101) was established in 1942 and flew various aircraft including the F-14 Tomcat. When the F-14 was retired in 2005, VF-101 was disestablished.
