Two additional F-35A Lightning II fighters were delivered to Eglin AFB, Florida, on 31 August with F-16s flown by 33rd Fighter Wing pilots escorting the jets to their new home. The two F-35s (Air Force serial numbers 08-0748 and 08-0749) mark the third and fourth conventional takeoff and landing, or CTOL, variants delivered to the F-35 Integrated Training Center at Eglin. The aircraft will initially be used for maintenance training. More F-35s are scheduled to arrive at Eglin in 2011, including the first F-35B short takeoff/vertical landing, or STOVL, variant.
