New Landing Strip

The US Army and Air Force performed a joint airborne air transportability training exercise 27-29 October 2014 on a new flight landing strip at Fort Riley, Kansas. The exercise validated the airstrip's capabilities and replicated conditions Airmen and Soldiers encounter in austere forward operating locations. Airmen from the 186th Airlift Squadron, the Montana Air National Guard at Great Falls ANGB, flew to Manhattan Regional Airport, loaded a C-130 and airlifted Soldiers and equipment to the landing strip on 27 October. The aircrew made eight more takeoffs and landings onto the airstrip and then conducted night airdrop exercises on 28 and 29 October. The flight landing strip allows troops at Fort Riley to conduct joint operations with the Air Force.
