The U-2 Dragon Lady was the featured aircraft for the nineteenth annual US Air Force Marathon held 19 September 2015 at Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton, Ohio. A U-2 was flown over the starting line to begin the day and the aircraft’s likeness appeared on the medals given to all the runners. The U-2 previously appeared on the Marathon medals in 2005. Other Lockheed Martin aircraft honored previously include the F-22 Raptor (1998 and 2008), F-16 Fighting Falcon (2000), F-117 Nighthawk (2004), C-5 Galaxy (2007), C-130J Super Hercules (2013), and F-35 Lightning II (2014). The Air Force Marathon Office, assigned to the 88th Air Base Wing at Wright-Patterson, coordinates the event, which this year included a full marathon, half marathon, 5k and 10k runs, and a wheelchair division race. More than 15,000 runners and more than 2,300 volunteers participated in the event, which concludes at the National Museum of the US Air Force.
