In late October 2013, three members of the same family were deployed to the 386th Expeditionary Maintenance Group, the Air Force Central Command unit in Southwest Asia. SMSgt. Steven Buchwald, who is making his eighteenth and final deployment before retirement, is the lead production superintendent for the 386th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, the C-130 maintenance unit. His son, SrA Travis Buchwald, is a C-130 crew chief. SrA Hans Hock, the elder Buchwald's son-in-law, is an aircrew ground equipment mechanic who keeps the aircraft support equipment in working order. This marks the first time the three members of the 107th Airlift Wing, the New York Air National Guard unit at Niagara Falls, New York, have been deployed at the same time.
