Third Bay, No Waiting

The newest C-5M modernization bay at the Lockheed Martin facility in Marietta, Georgia, opened for business on 30 June 2011, as the next C-5B aircraft to be upgraded to Super Galaxy standard, Air Force serial number 87-0035, was backed in and broke the ceremonial ribbon. The new southwest bay in the L-10 hangar at the Lockheed Martin facilities is the third of four bays to be opened as the program approaches full rate production of eleven C-5Ms per year. The new workstands and equipment used for C-5 modernization greatly enhances safety and speeds work accomplished on the aircraft. Three C-5s are now being modernized at Marietta. This aircraft is stationed at Dover AFB, Delaware.
