Crews from the 153rd Airlift Wing, the Wyoming Air National Guard unit at Cheyenne, conducted annual Modular Airborne Firefighting System 2, or MAFFS 2, training with the US Forest Service during the week of 16 April 2012. The training took place at the 153rd AW’s base and at the nearby Camp Guernsey Joint Training Center. Previously, the three Air National Guard and one Air Force Reserve Command MAFFS units from across the country met in one location for the annual training. For the 2012 training, Forest Service personnel traveled to each individual unit to reduce costs and improve efficiency. The MAFFS 2 equipment, which is owned by the Forest Service, has several significant improvements over the original MAFFS equipment.
