Iraq Airlift

US Air Force MSgt. Pennie J. Brawley, a C-130 Hercules loadmaster deployed to the 746th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron, counts halal meals inside a C-130 at Al Udeid AB, Qatar on 13 August 2014, before a humanitarian airdrop over Iraq. The humanitarian aid included bottled water and food for displaced citizens in the vicinity of Sinjar, Iraq. President Barack Obama authorized humanitarian aid deliveries to Iraq as well as targeted airstrikes to protect US personnel from extremists known as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant. US Central Command directed the operations. As of 14 August, US and Allied C-130 and C-17 aircrews had dropped more than 114,000 meals and 35,000 gallons of water in support of this effort.
