The last C-5A Galaxy transport assigned to the 167th Airlift Wing, the West Virginia Air National Guard unit at Martinsburg, was retired on 20 May 2015. This aircraft (Air Force serial number 69-0009) was also the last C-5 assigned to the Air National Guard. The departure of the C-5 marked the end of a fifty-two year era of the 167th AW flying Lockheed or Lockheed Martin aircraft. Starting in 1962, the wing flew the C-121 Super Constellation, then the C-130A/B/E/H Hercules, and finally, the C-5A. As the 167th AW is converting to the C-17, a crew from the 337th Airlift Squadron, the Air Force Reserve Command C-5 unit at Westover ARB, Massachusetts, flew the aircraft to the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona.
