Approximately 50 members of the 86th Airlift Wing and 435th Contingency Response Group at Ramstein AB, Germany, traveled to Powidz AB, Poland, for combined training with Polish military forces on 13-19 August 2010. Called Operation Screaming Eagle, the weeklong off-site training included more than 180 high altitude, low opening, or HALO, paratroop drops; freefall paratrooper support for the Polish Operational Mobile Reaction Group, and training Polish riggers how to properly assemble container delivery system bundles for airdrops. During the exercise, the Ramstein C-130J crews were able to meet night flying requirements, which is difficult for them to do at home station because of the base’s quiet hour rules. The Polish Air Force received five refurbished C-130Es in early 2009.
