US Airmen, Marines, and US and German soldiers marked the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks with a joint training exercise and memorial ceremonies at Edwards AFB, California, on 11 September 2011. Nearly 150 US Soldiers jumped from Marine KC-130Js during the exercise, which was dubbed Vigilant Warrior. The jumpmasters on the KC-130s were German soldiers who issued commands in German. Because of this twist, the American paratroops are now authorized by NATO regulation to wear German parachute wings. Special guests included Arthur M. Petersen and Robert Forties, who both jumped into Normandy, France, on 6 June 1944. The KC-130Js are assigned to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 352 (VMGR-352) at MCAS Miramar, California, near San Diego.
