A US Marine Corps KC-130J Super Hercules crew from Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 152 (VMGR-152) at MCAS Futenma, Okinawa, Japan, aided US Coast Guard Sector Guam personnel on a search and rescue mission on 6 June 2012. The Coast Guard was notified 5 June that two mariners piloting a twenty-three-foot skiff were overdue and initiated a search. The Marines were asked to assist in the search with available air assets that evening and launched the aircraft the next morning, and spotted the mariners at 2:00 pm. The Marines dropped a life raft containing food, water, and supplies to the mariners and coordinated with the Coast Guard. A rescue vessel arrived and transported the mariners to Chuuk Island.
