Colorado Firefighting Update 2

Four Department of Defense C-130 aircraft equipped with US Forest Service Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems are assisting in the efforts to control fires in the Rocky Mountain region at the request of the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho. As of the morning of 29 June 2012, the C-130 crews have completed forty-eight airdrops releasing approximately 127,900 gallons of retardant on the Waldo Canyon fire. The MAFFS crews also previously made five airdrops releasing approximately 13,200 gallons of retardant on the Flagstaff fire. The supporting units are the 302nd Airlift Wing, the Air Force Reserve Command unit at Peterson AFB, Colorado, and the deployed the 153rd AW, the Wyoming Air National Guard unit in Cheyenne.
