An MC-130J Commando II Special Operations airlifter that will be converted into the first AC-130J gunship is shown on the production line at the Lockheed Martin facility in Marietta, Georgia, on 23 July 2012. The AC-130J, which will be flown by US Air Force Special Operations Command crews, will be equipped with what is termed a Precision Strike Package as armament. Sixteen AC-130Js are planned with initial operating capability scheduled for 2015. The new gunship has not yet received an official nickname.
