A C-130J with the 772nd Expeditionary Airlift Squadron at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, is loaded with supplies to be airdropped on 15 November 2012. The squadron averages fifty sorties a day, shared between seven crews. Known informally as the Gun Runners, the 772nd EAS crews perform a large majority of airdrop missions in theater, averaging about two airdrop missions per day. Most airdrop missions utilize the conventional Container Delivery System, which can deliver more than 30,000 pounds of supplies. Another method used less frequently is the Low Cost, Low Altitude delivery system that provides a precise and inexpensive method for resupply. The aircraft and most of the approximately 150 US Airmen in the 772nd EAS are deployed from Dyess AFB, Texas.
